A. O. Hardee and Son, Inc. Begins Interchange Project

Work is underway to reconfigure the interchange of Robert M. Grissom Parkway and S.C. 31, also known as the Carolina Bays Parkway, in a $2.8 million dollar project. This will provide additional access to the Carolina Forest community, which currently uses Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach, as well as easing congestion on that roadway. New residential development has already sprung up in anticipation of this project, with developments by Centex Homes, D.R. Horton, and many smaller builders.

The reconfiguration will tie the Parkway into International (Burroughs Road) Road, which begins at Highway 90 in Conway. The new road will provide an important hurricane evacuation option for residents and visitors. The project is scheduled for completion in May of 2004.

Work Continues on Coastal Grand Mall

Our company has been working at the new mall site since August 2002, doing all site clearing, earthwork, pond construction, sanitary water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, curb & gutter, base and paving for the entire project. The Coastal Grand Myrtle Beach Mall is expected to be the largest shopping center in South Carolina, and has been in the planning stage for nearly a decade.

The scheduled opening date for the 1.5 million square foot mall is March 17, 2004. The new mall has space for five anchor tenants and five large specialty tenants. It has 35,500 square feet of space for entertainment and restaurants, and will contain a 14-screen Cinemark movie theatre.

Among the 125 retailers at the mall will be Abercrombie & Fitch, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Dillard’s. More than 20 outparcels will surround the 170-acre site. The mall is located on the U.S 17 Bypass, just south of U.S. 501, near the Myrtle Beach Airport.
